What is this program? The Housing Choice Voucher Program provides assistance to very low-income families so they can afford decent, safe, and sanitary housing. Homes may be single-family homes, townhouses, or apartments, and are not limited to units located in subsidized housing projects. Housing Choice Vouchers are administered locally by Public Housing Agencies (PHAs). A family receiving a housing voucher is responsible for finding and choosing a suitable housing unit that the owner agrees to rent under the program.
